United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI)

The Pensions Trust became a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) in May 2010.

The United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment Initiative (PRI) is a network of international investors working together to put the six Principles for Responsible Investment into practice.

The Princples were devised by the investment community. They reflect the view that environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues can affect the performance of investment portfolios and therefore must be given appropriate consideration by investors. The Principles provide a voluntary framework by which all investors can incorporate ESG issues into their decision-making and ownership practices and so better align their objectives with those of society at large.

Becoming a signatory to the UNPRI, we are committed to the following six principles:

1   We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes
2 We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices
3 We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest
4 We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry
5 We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles
6 We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles

Becoming a signatory to the UNPRI will not only assist The Pensions Trust's in our endeavours in the area of responsible investment, but also demonstrates our serious commitment in this area to our employers and members.

The Pensions Trust has undertaken various initiatives to implement the Principles.
