What is ‘Giving Something Back’ all about?
Giving Something Back is an opportunity for employees of The Pensions Trust to take approved time out of their day to day duties to work with the communities in close proximity to our offices. It is hoped that all employees to get involved in some capacity, is voluntary.
Why is The Pensions Trust supporting Giving Something Back?
Primarily we believe we are in a position to be able to support our local communities. By supporting organisations that have charitable or social purposes, this enables us to make a difference to other peoples lives, and help them realise their own goals and values. Employees will have the scope to get involved in what is important to them.
Additionally, we believe our employees will be able to develop their own skills in different settings, including:
• Team working – employees will get to work with people who have a desire to help the same organisations who they may not have not worked with before. This will allow people to share experiences, see how others work and hear different perspectives.
• Communication – someone will need to coordinate each project team and be the main liaison between the community group/charity where the activity is being carried out and other team members involved.
• Project management – team members will need to scope out what the team wants to do, how they can achieve their goal, and allocate tasks for each team member on the day.
• Leadership – different team members will need to be in charge of different aspects of the activity from start to finish (and managers are not expected to have to take on this role).
• Problem solving – issues will arise with coordinating and delivering the activity. There will be advice and support available from the HR Manager, but largely teams will be expected to solve any problems themselves.
• Resource management – the team will need to manage their resources accordingly – both time and money.
