Structure of the Board

The Directors elect a Chair and Deputy Chair each year - these individuals have a particular role in supporting the Chief Executive of The Pensions Trust and are responsible for appointing Directors to the sub-committees. Most Directors are expected to stand for election to one or more of these sub-committees during their term of office as a Director.

Sub-Committees

The Investment Committee.
This Committee normally meets four times a year. Its purpose is to oversee the satisfactory investment of funds and decide all matters relating to investments and the review/monitoring of fund investment managers, and other investment services.

This Committee currently consists of:

  • Michael Deakin & Peter Dunscombe - Co-optee


SHPS Representative -

The Audit & Compliance Committee.
This Committee meets four times a year. Its purpose is to address such matters as internal audit, internal controls, compliance, the annual audit and the annual accounts.

This Committee currently consists of:

  • Joe Robertson 
  • Mary Doddridge 
  • Douglas Keir
  • Peter Boyd 
  • Clare Smith 


The Appeals and Discretions Committee

This Committee determines appeals to the Trustee at the second stage of the Internal Disputes Resolution Procedure and considers discretionary benefit payments. The Committee meets as and when required. Often decisions are made by postal votes.

This Committee currently consists of:

  • Joe Robertson 
  • Clare Smith 
  • Stephen Duckworth
  • Bob Vandersluis
  • Catherine Howarth

Business Performance, Renumeration and Appointments Committee 
This Committee meets as and when required. Its purpose is to approve the Chief Executive’s remuneration and to decide on specified senior appointments/dismissals.

This Committee currently consists of:

  • Clare Smith 
  • Peter Weiner 
  • Stephen Duckworth
  • Trevor Peel
  • Peter Boyd

In addition to the above, ad hoc working groups of Directors are set up as necessary to consider specific matters (for example, constitutional matters) within a defined timescale.
