Douglas Kier

Douglas retired in 2003, previously he worked for 34 years for Swiss Reinsurance Co. in South Africa, Switzerland and the UK.  During his career he assumed senior strategic responsibilities in actuarial, finance and investment, human resources, information technology and general management areas, all of which are potentially relevant to The Pensions Trust.

As an actuary (FFA:1972), he has a professional understanding of the dynamics of pension funds, with particular reference to the potential long-term effects of operational and investment decisions as well as the ever-changing landscape of issues such as longevity and inflation. He was elected as an Employer Nominated Director of The Pensions Trust in 2007, and has been a member of their Investment Committee since then. He is also vice-chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee which he joined in 2009.
 
He became actively involved in voluntary work following retirement and he is currently treasurer and a trustee of three independent Home-Start charities: in Oxford, Banbury and Woking.

Home-Start is a charity providing local volunteer home-visiting support to vulnerable families with young children.
