Pensions Committee Elections 2012

Every two years elections are held for vacancies on the SHAPS Pensions Committee. Your organisation will receive a Pensions Committee Elections Nomination Form inviting it to put forward a candidate.

The Pensions Committee is responsible for the successful operation of the Scheme. It carries out Trustee duties, delegated to it from The Pensions Trust’s Trustee Board. As
an Employer Representative, the Committee acts as the conduit for participating employer’s views. Being a Committee member is an important and rewarding role. Committee members will have the satisfaction of knowing that they are responsible for something that matters hugely to the people whose interests they represent – the safety and security of their retirement income.

To be eligible to be an Employer Nominated Represented, you must either be a member or pensioner of the Scheme or an employee, or member of the Board, of an employer participating in the Scheme. Each employer can nominate only one person in any election. A person will not be eliginle if there is already someone employed by the same organisation who is continuing to serve as a member of the Committee.

New Committee members do not need to have any previous pensions knowledge to join the Committee, they will however be required to complete online training called the Trustee Toolkit, which is provided by The Pensions Regulator within two years of joining the Committee; and participate in training sessions provided for all Committee members.

The deadline for submission of your Nomination Form is Thursday 1 March 2012.
